Slight improvement leaves millions still out of work

Friday strengthening employment data good news for everyone, the search for a job. And there are still many people links in this category.


With the unemployment rate at 8.5 percent in December there were 13.1 million Americans out of work compared to 7 million, when the recession began four years ago. The unemployment rate was 7.5 per cent for the white (3.1% higher than at the beginning of the recession), to 15.8 percent for African-Americans (6.8% higher) and 11 percent for Hispanic or Latino of any race (4.7 percentage points higher).


The proportion of the population with a job that began joining the recession to 62.7%, fell not seen tank 58.5 percent to a level since the mid of 1980s, according to the Center on budget and policy priorities, a left-wing think-tank.


The Ministry of labour broadest unemployment measure - includes the so called "discouraged" look workers aufgegeben-- fell by 15.2 per cent in December, down from the all-time high of 17.4% in October 2009. By this measure, nearly 24 million people are unemployed or underemployed.


"The labour market nowhere healthy close enough, nor is a sharp curtailment of the Federal Republic of unemployment insurance, emergency justify the critical support of not only the record numbers of long-term unemployed, but on the economy, as well as give," said the CBPP Chief Economist, Chad stone.
